Ben Zwerin

Born of an American father and French mother in Nimes, France, Ben grew up in Paris. Introduced very early to music by his father, href="http://mikezwerin.com">Mike Zwerin, a critic for the “International Herald Tribune”, as well as a famous trombonist who has performed with the likes of Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy, and Maynard Fergusson, Ben started performing around Paris at an early age.

In the fall of 1995, on a scholarship, he left to Berklee College of Music to study with great teachers (such as Hal Crook, Bruce Gertz and Phil Wilson) and extand his musical family. With the “Meier Group”, a Boston based fusion band, Ben traveled to Europe to perform in Festivals such as “Montreux Jazz Festival”, “Jazz a Juan” and “Jazz a Vienne” and recorded three albums (one of which features Bill Evans on saxophone and Matthieu Michel on trumpet).

After graduating in the fall of 97, Ben performed and taught (at Northeastern University) in Boston until he moved to New York in 2000. He then started touring as well as working in the local venues (“Roseland”, “Bowery Ballroom”, “Bitter End”, “Joe’s Pub”, “Mercury Lounge”) with such talented and diverse groups as JJ Appleton (with who he opened for Hootie and the Blowfish, Edwin McCain and Sister Hazel and appeared on “Last Call with Carson Daly” and “Wild on E!”), Brendan James (Decca/Universal recording artist), Tammany Hall (has had songs on HBO, MTV, NBC as well as WB11), Frenchie Davis (of Rent and American Idol), Jai Rodriguez (of Queer eye for the straight guy), Ellen Greene (of The Little Shop of Horrors), Antonique Smith (of Rent), Pinfield and many others. Ben also played in the Off-Broadway shows “Bat Boy” and “a Broadway Diva Christmas”.

Since moving to New York, Ben has been writing (along with Frederik Rubens) music for TV shows such as “All my children” and “One life to live” and producing local artists.

In 2008 his band, Running Still (with whom he opened for Duncan Sheik, Evan and Jaron as well as Tony Furtado) was signed to East/West (Warner Music Group) and released its debut album.
